Currently reading Karen Hao‘s Empire of AI while also needing to advise more at work about responsible use and data safety around AI. I have largely been a curmudgeon about generative AI in general, being concerned about environmental impacts, data leaks, and it genuinely just having underwhelming products.
But my grumpiness shouldn’t stop me from continuing to keep up on the topic and learning how the tech works. After being frustrated by a lot of reporting that is obviously booster hype or just copy-pasting press releases from the AI companies, I have been ignoring a lot of it.
Who is doing up-to-date, clear-eyed, critical reporting on AI and the industry? I would love to read reporting about AI similar to Molly White‘s Citation Needed newsletter about the cryptocurrency industry. Ideally an RSS feed with regular updates and context both about the tech itself and the industry. This will likely be multiple sources, but who do you like? No boosters and no doomers, please.
